The Art Cafe is always looking for creative people to be teachers! Will this be you?
Welcome! Thank you for your interest in teaching at the Art Café! We are excited by your interest and want to provide you with all the information you need to make the best of this collaboration.
First thing’s first: The finances!
The Art Café operates on a 60/40 split. The 60% going to the party that provides the supplies. The Art Café is willing to order most supplies for classes when given enough notice to have them on hand. In rare cases, a different split (70/30) can be negotiated for classes where supply costs are high or certain crafts/arts require a different class format.
Payment: A check will be waiting for you at the end of your class.
Scheduling: The Art Café is open Wednesday through Sunday 11am-6pm, with extended hours on Saturday until 8pm. We can accommodate further extended hours for classes outside of these times with advanced notice. Please carefully consider the amount of time your class may take, including set up and clean up time. We ask that you do your best to wrap up classes close to their scheduled time, since the café often has additional classes scheduled, especially on the weekends.
Class Set Up Form: When scheduling a class, we ask that you provide us with information using the “Class Set-Up Form”. We will need your contact information, the maximum number of participants that you can accommodate for the class and any age restrictions. We ask that you come up with a description for the class. The more fun and informative the description, the better the outcome for sign-ups. We will need a photo of the artwork/craft with a plain background, as well as a sample that can be put on display in the Art Café.
Advertising: We will promote your class on our social media pages, our website and in the Café in our “Upcoming Classes” curio cabinet using the materials you have provided. We also encourage you to self-promote on your own social media pages, feel free to share the posts we create to your audience.
Signing Up: The Art Café utilizes its website for customers to sign up for classes. When customers sign up for your class via the website, you will receive an email and/or text message so you have an idea of how well your class is selling and how many people will attend. We print a class roster the day of the class so you are able to have the names of the people taking your class. We can also take reservations at the café in person or by phone.
Last Minute Registration: MANY people register for a class the day of or the night before. Please prepare as best you can for at least one or two last minute registrations.
Set Up: If you are using our supplies or tools, please let us know ahead of time what you require. Please arrive 30 minutes before your class is scheduled to be set up and to greet students as they often arrive early. We occasionally have 2 classes scheduled at the same time as well as DIY projects happening in the front of the Café so early arrival keeps things as orderly as possible.
No Shows: Refunds are given if notice is given within 24 hours of the class. If a student does not show at the last minute, you will be paid for their spot as long as the student registered and paid for that class.
Clean Up: Teachers are expected to put away any Art Café supplies used. Art Café staff will sweep and wipe down the tables after use.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions or if your class idea falls outside of the “norm” for our usual policy.
Once you've decided to become a teacher, download the "Class Set-Up Form" below, fill it out and return it to the Art Cafe!
